Layer 1 · The Foundation

I grew up in a family business, then ran my own.

I started out working with my family at Merchant of Vino. Later I ran Vinology, a wine bar and restaurant in Ann Arbor, for ten years. Staff, inventory, payroll, and thin margins. I was the one who had to make it work.

So I know what it's like to run something nobody trained you to run.

Layer 2 · The Structure

Then I spent years learning what holds a business up.

I audited companies at KPMG, UHY, and Clayton & McKervey, then worked in corporate accounting as a senior technical accountant at Consumers Energy, preparing SEC filings. Audit work changes how you look at a business. You stop asking “what did they record?” and start asking “what's missing?”

So I'll notice what your numbers aren't telling you, and your books get the same discipline at the scale of your business.

Layer 3 · The Living Surface

Now it's my own practice.

I run Dragonfly CPA, working with clinicians on billing, credentialing, accounting, and tax preparation. I spent the last two years running the full back office for a behavioral health practice, and I'm building my own practice one client at a time, on purpose.

So you're working with the person who actually does the work.
